Enjoy a day out canal boating through the Warwickshire countryside

On a day out boating from Wootton Wawen near Henley-in-Arden in Warwickshire, you can head south along the Stratford Canal to the historic village of Wilmcote. The two-hour route takes you across the impressive Edstone Aqueduct and passes through one lock before reaching moorings at Wilmcote. You can moor up above Wilmcote Top Lock and take a short walk into the village, where you’ll find The Mary Arden Inn and The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s Mary Arden Farm.

Or you can cruise north along the Stratford Canal to the pretty village of Lowsonford, home of the canalside Fleur dy Lys pub.  The journey takes three hours each way, and passes through eight locks each way.

General information

Passenger numbers Our day boats Dolly, Charlie and Emma at Wootton Wawen can each accommodate up to 10 passengers (including infants and pets).

Pets You can bring dogs but they each count as a passenger.

What’s onboard? Our self-drive day boats have indoor and outdoor seating, a toilet, gas hob and a fridge or electric cool box. Buoyancy aids are also available on request.

Your day out boating Check in at 9am and provide a security deposit (£100 per boat). Return at 4pm March to October. 3pm return over the winter months.

Tuition is included in our day boat hire. We’ll ask you to complete a handover certificate before releasing the boat).

Prices £99 per day Monday to Friday. £165 on weekends and bank holidays.

Car parking & damage waiver is included.

Our Wootton Wawen boat yard is on the Stratford Canal near Henley-in-Arden in Warwickshire. The entrance is on the A3400 next to the Navigation Inn.

FAQs

Do I need a licence to drive a canal boat?

You don’t need a licence to steer a canal boat and it’s easy to learn how to operate a boat.  When you arrive at one of our boat yards, one of our experienced instructors will guide you through everything you need to know.

 

What time can I collect the boat?

You can check in at 9am and return the boat by 4pm March to October. By 3pm over the winter months.

 

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, you can bring up to three well-behaved dogs but they count as passengers (maximum 10 passengers are allowed per boat).
