Canal Boat Holiday Circuits & Rings
Canal cruising rings are circular routes that allow you to see a new stretch of water every day on your boating holiday.
There are 10 different cruising rings to choose from. Depending on where you begin, some can take as little as four days, others up to four weeks.
Some of the rings are available from more than one of our bases. For example, you can cruise the Four Counties Ring from Bunbury and Great Haywood.
The Birmingham Mini-Ring
This 45-mile circuit passes through 49 locks and takes in sections of the Worcester & Birmingham, Birmingham Main Line and Grand Union canals. We recommend you travel round the Birmingham Mini-Ring on a week long break from Wootton Wawen.
The Droitwich Ring
Also known as the Mid-Worcestershire Ring, the Droitwich Ring is a 21-mile, 33-lock circuit which takes around 16 hours to complete. It travels sections of the Worcester & Birmingham Canal and the River Severn, as well as the Droitwich Barge and Junction canals. We recommend you travel round the Droitwich Ring on a 10-day or 11-day break from Wootton Wawen.
The Black Country Ring
The route, also known as the Staffordshire Ring, travels stretches of the Birmingham & Fazeley, Coventry Canal, Trent & Mersey and various sections of the Birmingham Canal Navigations. The Black Country Ring covers 75 miles, and passes through 70 locks. We recommend you travel round the Black Country Ring on a 10-day, 11-day or two-week break from Great Haywood.
The Four Counties Ring
This 110-mile route takes you on a canal boat holiday odyssey through the counties of Staffordshire, the West Midlands, Cheshire and Shropshire. The circuit travels sections of the Shropshire Union, Staffordshire & Worcestershire and Trent & Mersey canals. There are 94 locks to pass through and it takes around 55 cruising hours. We recommend you travel round the Four Counties Ring on a 10-day, 11-day or two-week break from Great Haywood or Bunbury.
The Cheshire Ring
This epic waterway journey will take you right through the heart of Manchester and into the Peak District via the Ashton, Macclesfield, Peak Forest, Rochdale, Trent & Mersey and Bridgewater canals. You’ll travel 97 miles and pass through 92 locks. We recommend you travel round the Cheshire Ring on a two-week break from Bunbury.
The Warwickshire Ring
The circuit runs for 104 miles through 121 locks. It takes in sections of the Grand Union, Oxford, Coventry and Birmingham & Fazeley canals. We recommend you travel round the Warwickshire Ring on a 10-day, 11-day or two-week break from Wootton Wawen.
The Avon Ring
The 108-mile long journey goes through 131 locks and navigates sections of the Stratford Canal, River Avon, River Severn and Worcester & Birmingham Canal. It takes you through the counties of Warwickshire and Worcestershire. We recommend you travel round the Avon Ring on a 10-day, 11-day or two-week break from Wootton Wawen.
The Stourport Ring
This route travels 104 miles through 121 locks and takes around 44 hours. It takes in sections of the Staffordshire & Worcestershire, Worcester & Birmingham, Birmingham Main Line and Stourbridge canals, as well as a short section of the River Severn, Britain’s longest river. We recommend you travel round the Stourport Ring on a two-week break from Great Haywood.
The Pennine Ring
This epic and challenging canal boat holiday route, also known as ‘The Two Roses Ring’ takes you along sections of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Aire & Calder Navigation, Huddersfield Broad Canal, the Calder & Hebble Navigation, the Rochdale Canal and the Bridgewater Canal. It travels 183 miles through 214 locks and takes around four weeks from our Silsden base.
The South Pennine Ring
This challening circuit criss-crosses the Pennines travelling 73 miles and passing through 197 locks. You’ll travel sections of the Calder & Hebble Navigation, Ashton, Huddersfield Narrow, Huddersfield Broad and Rochdale canals. We recommend you travel round the South Pennine Ring on a three-week break from Great Haywood.
The East Midlands Ring
Also known as the Leicester Ring, this route travels 154 miles through stunning English countryside, visiting a series of historic villages and market towns along the way. There are 117 locks to pass through. You can complete this ring on a two-week break from Great Haywood, cruising 6 or 7 hours a day.
